MG has surprised the automotive world by unveiling the new MG GO! concept at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The compact electric hatchback provides an early preview of a new affordable B-segment production car scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The MG GO! is particularly important because it targets one of the most competitive areas of the global automotive market: compact electric cars designed for everyday urban driving.
Affordable Size with a Sporty Character
Although the MG GO! belongs to the compact city-car segment, its design is significantly more aggressive and distinctive than that of a conventional budget vehicle.
The concept features round headlights, wide wheel arches, oversized wheels, a low front end, a prominent rear wing and a large diffuser that gives it the appearance of a sporty hot hatch.
MG says the design combines a modern, retro-futuristic character with references to some of the brand’s most recognisable historic models, including the MGB GT, MG Metro Turbo, MG ZR and MG EX4.
Designed in London
Both the MG GO! concept and the upcoming production vehicle were designed by the MG Design Centre in London.
The project was developed to create a compact and contemporary electric car with a strong personality, rather than a model that competes only through a low price.
MG aims to combine simple design, youthful character, everyday practicality and British-inspired styling in a vehicle that can stand out in a highly competitive market.
Could the Production Car Be Called MG2?
MG has not officially confirmed the production model’s final name.
However, British automotive reports suggest that the vehicle could be introduced as the MG2, becoming the smallest electric car in MG’s international line-up and sitting below the MG4 in both size and price.
The production version is expected to retain a practical five-door hatchback body, although some of the concept’s more dramatic features are likely to be softened.
Smaller wheels, a more comfortable suspension setup, a conventional rear spoiler and a simpler diffuser could make the final car more suitable for daily urban use.
Strong Competition in the Affordable EV Market
The upcoming MG electric supermini is expected to compete with several important compact electric cars, including:

British reports indicate that the launch could take place around the middle of the year, while an estimated starting price of approximately £20,000 has also been suggested.
However, MG has not yet announced official pricing, trim levels or final production specifications.
Battery capacity, electric motor output, driving range, charging speed and complete interior details remain unconfirmed.
Will the MG GO! or MG2 Come to Saudi Arabia?
MG has not announced whether the production vehicle will be offered in Saudi Arabia or other Middle Eastern markets.
However, the popularity of affordable MG models in the Kingdom and growing interest in electric mobility could make the car a potential candidate for the region following its global launch.
Its success in Saudi Arabia would depend on local pricing, real-world driving range in hot weather, charging performance, warranty coverage, maintenance support and the availability of charging infrastructure.
