Imagine testing a car that has not been built yet, driving it on wet roads and changing its suspension or tyres within seconds—without leaving the laboratory. 👀
Hyundai has revealed one of the most advanced tools inside its Namyang Research and Development Center in South Korea: a highly realistic Driving Simulator capable of completing hours of virtual testing that would normally require days on a physical track.
🛣️ A Real Road Inside a Giant Screen
The system uses a 270-degree curved display powered by nine 4K projectors running at up to 240 Hz.
The cockpit also moves in six directions, recreating acceleration, braking, cornering, bumps and vehicle movement with remarkable realism.
🔍 Roads Scanned to One-Millimetre Accuracy
Hyundai scanned its real testing grounds in one-millimetre increments, capturing asphalt texture, bumps, slopes and drainage details.
The data was transformed into a precise virtual replica, allowing engineers to test vehicles before the first physical prototype is built.
⚡ Dozens of Cars Without Building One
Engineers can instantly change tyre, suspension and steering settings and compare multiple vehicle configurations without producing a new prototype each time.
Wet-road conditions and difficult environments can also be recreated within seconds, removing the need to wait for weather changes or travel to another test facility.
🏎️ Hyundai N Models Are Included
The simulator supports the development of regular production vehicles, Hyundai N performance cars, Genesis Magma models and even racing cars designed for the Nürburgring.
Hyundai is also exploring future use in autonomous driving, artificial intelligence and advanced vehicle validation.
🚘 What Does This Mean for Drivers?
Faster development, more testing and fewer problems before a new car enters production.
The question is:
If Hyundai can fully test a car before it even exists, how different will its next generation of vehicles become? 🔥
