Saudi Arabia has moved another step closer to producing its first locally designed and manufactured electric vehicle following the signing of two agreements aimed at localizing EV production and transferring advanced automotive knowledge and technologies to the Kingdom.
The new agreements provide a major boost to CEER National Automotive Company, with its products set to be included in Saudi Arabia’s mandatory national products list, supporting domestic manufacturing and directing part of government procurement toward locally produced vehicles.
🚘 Saudi-Designed Electric Sedans and SUVs
The agreements target the localization of electric sedan and SUV manufacturing as part of CEER’s plan to launch the first Saudi electric vehicle to be designed, engineered and manufactured inside the Kingdom.
The project goes beyond vehicle assembly and includes local engineering, manufacturing, technology transfer, supplier development and the creation of an integrated Saudi automotive supply chain.
💰 More Than SAR 9.2 Billion in Economic Impact
The two agreements are expected to contribute approximately SAR 9.213 billion to Saudi Arabia’s gross domestic product over the next ten years and create more than 2,600 new jobs.
The initiative is also expected to support local manufacturers and suppliers, increase the use of locally produced materials and components, and improve the competitiveness of Saudi Arabia’s automotive sector.
🇸🇦 30,000 Jobs Targeted by 2034
By 2034, CEER aims to support approximately 30,000 jobs, including 6,500 direct and 23,500 indirect positions, with Saudi nationals expected to hold 80% of the direct jobs.
The company is also targeting an estimated SAR 30 billion contribution to gross domestic product and a 45% local-content ratio across its products.
🏭 A Saudi Automotive Industry Built to Global Standards
The agreements represent an important practical step toward building an integrated national automotive industry based not only on vehicle imports or assembly, but also on local design, engineering, advanced manufacturing and technology transfer.
With CEER’s manufacturing complex continuing to take shape in King Abdullah Economic City, the Saudi and regional markets are now awaiting further details of the Kingdom’s first locally produced electric vehicles.
